Weight Loss Journal… Day 4

Wow… Day 4!  It is Saturday and its harder to be healthier on the weekend, especially when you are spending time with other people other than yourself. I started the morning off with a run with a few friends at 6:30am. I ran 2 miles before turning back and finding my friend Darby that was walking the track. By the time I met up with her I was at 2.5 miles. I decided to walk the last half mile back to the car with her and catch up. We hadn’t seen each other since October, even though we are on Facebook it still doesn’t beat the good ole conversation you can have with a real person. Our other friends, Erika & Rebekha, were already finished and waiting for us by the car. It was a beautiful morning.

I went to Starbucks for breakfast (which is a normal thing to do every Saturday and Sunday) which probably wasn’t the best idea, at least my choice wasn’t. I ended up getting a marshmallow dream bar which wasn’t high in calories but it was high in sugar. I should have just stuck with fruit.  I also ended up going to the movies and seeing the new Transformers movie, it was awesome! I didn’t pig out like I normally would have, I only got some popcorn. My friend ate most of it.

Lunch was followed up by going to the Wegman’s buffet, I was very selective and picky on what I got. The best thing was the pineapple… it was like a little dessert break!

I ended up skipping dinner due to some projects that needed to get done around the house, like mowing the grass, painting and cleaning up one of my bedrooms. It got over whelming so I just ate a few crackers.

Well it’s going well… I’m seeing what I can fix and change.

Until tomorrow…

Weight Loss Journey… Day 3

Today started earlier than previous days, since it was Friday I knew I wouldn’t be able to go to the gym after work so I got up around 6:30am. I went for a run on the trail near my work. The total run was about 45 minutes, which was about 4.1 miles. It was a quiet morning on the trail, I only saw a few runners and bikers. Breakfast was different for me this morning, not my normal shake, but I got a waffle and chunks of pineapple. Normally I would go for shredded hash browns but opted out for fresh fruit instead. It was a smart decision. I also did away with the extra ice tea drink during the day and substituted it for another 16 oz of my green tea concoction.  Lunch proved to be the sticky point of the day. I went to lunch with a few co-workers and we went to an Indian Buffet.  They have so many great and wonderful tasting vegetarian food that I think I over ate. I the make up for it with dinner though. I opted for a salad instead. The salad consisted of romaine and spring mix lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, cranberries, sunflower seeds, black beans and wonton noodles. It was delicious!  Today I didn’t have any snacks which could be good or bad… depends on how my metabolism held up today. I feel good about it today but the weekend is upon us and it’s always a challenge. I will do my best!

Weight Loss Journey… Day 2

6/26/2014 Day 2

Today I weighed myself like I do everyday and it dropped to 191.4lbs which was a loss of 1.2lbs. This might be a fluke since it was only the first day of tracking and really focusing. Tomorrow morning will be the next true test. In order for weight loss to be considered healthy it should average about 2-3lbs per week. I really didn’t cut anything major out of the diet yet especially since I still had a snapple today even though I know that some changes have to made in order to succeed. When I went to the gym I did change something. I added an extra 15 minutes on the elliptical and raised it to level 3 for the first 30 minutes. I hope I can start building on that success in order  to reach my goal.

Weight Loss Journey… Day 1

Day 1: 6/25/2014

So today I tried to start my weight loss journey. I think today was the hardest. I went for pizza after I looked up the ingredients and the calorie count. I figured I could control myself and only eat 2 slices, boy was I wrong. I ate 4, which was half the pizza. The four slices totaled 760 calories, eek!  I did walk at lunch and spent an additional 45 minutes on the elliptical machine at the gym. I believe that I need to add some additional cardio routines in order to burn some extra calories.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings…

Weight Loss Journey… The Beginning!

6/25/2014

The purpose of this journal is to document the action plan that I am choosing to make a healthier lifestyle for myself. It is in no shape or form to be taken as a work all diet plan for others to follow. This is my personal journey to a better me. My goal and intent is to document everything each day that I eat, drink and activities such as going to the gym. I will document also each part of my workout routine such as time spent on the machines and extra exercises to help me get to my goal weight. I will also make a journal entry at least once a day regarding how I felt about the day. Thank you for taking this journey with me.

Weight Loss Challenge… My Journey Begins…

So on June 25th, 2014, I woke up with a realization that I needed to make some changes in my life. I’ve been struggling with my weight lately and I’m not happy. I got back up to 198lbs, my heaviest was 202 a couple of years ago. I made some strides along the way and was down to 179 but after a few years and bad choices I climbed back up to 198… I started this journey last year and lost my way. I’ve been trying to get back on track. Now is the time to regain my focus. So if you are interested in taking this journey with me, I’ll be documenting everything through a written journal and this adding it to this blog every few days.

Thanks,

Rob

Oops…I did it Again!

Oops…I did it Again!

So it’s been over 3 months since my last posting and I’m so so sorry.

Today I find myself at the Laundromat.  I thought that once I bought a house I wouldn’t have to worry about coming here again however if you don’t wash your comforters one by one, you need to come and use the super duty machines to wash them all at once.  The wash part doesn’t worry me, I got them to fit into two machines versus six, so that’s a good sign. I am a little concerned about drying them though. I’ll probably have to split them up into three or four dryers, which each one is already going to take an hour, but I guess the $20 I spend today will be better than the $100 I would have spent on my one electric bill. Since it is a nice 83 degrees out, at least I’m not heating up the house as well.

So other than comforters needing washed what else has been going on over the past 3 months you ask… It’s been quite busy.  March saw to it that winter wasn’t quite over for us in the NE yet and we got more snow.  April was huge with rain so a lot of outdoor activities weren’t going to happen, so why was I slacking on my writing?  I did however finish my second edits on my first novella, Reality Shift, which I’m searching desperately for an editor for. I need to take the time and really search for one. May however was my busiest month to date.

In May I attended a fundraiser for my Relay For Life team, which turned out to be a “Best of Home Brew” battle for our company. We had 14 employees who brewed 23 different beers. We had the highest attendance since starting this fundraiser with over 140 people.  I was in charge of gathering raffle prizes and making up raffle baskets, this year alone, the raffles raised over $2500!  That was my best year yet since taking over that project in 2008. I had some rest for two weeks prior the Relay For Life of Upper Merion where I was once again the event chair. I spent over 72hours at the track that weekend. It poured down rain on Friday for set up and I was out there slushing around making sure that the banners and signs got put up.  The event kicked off on Saturday May 17th and went for 24hours. I had 2 hours of sleep in that span. Needless to say I was exhausted by the time I got home on Sunday. Luckily I was on vacation for the next 9 days so I could rest. On the 20th of May was a lot of birthday’s for people in my life including my niece, a friend named Ashley, and my good friend Connie…queen of the shit starters. She was attending a continuing education course in Atlantic City, so me and my man went down and surprised her. It was a perfect beach day as well. It felt great to be out by the water and strolling along the boardwalk. We stayed overnight and gambled a little, but of course didn’t win anything. It was a great little road trip. That week led us straight into Memorial Day weekend.  We looked at a house, considered the possibility of selling mine and moving. The house we looked at was in a great location but needs some major updating. The lady who owned it previously had died several years ago and nothing was ever updated to modern standards. The grass was even overrun and the realtor said it was going to get cut, but it wasn’t as of yet. That was over a month ago. I still can’t believe that they haven’t mowed it yet. I guess they aren’t in a hurry to sell it.

I’ve been scouring over several of the real estate apps for a new place but still wasn’t convinced if I was ready to sell my existing house. It’s not that the house itself is bad, it’s on a busy street. I grew up a country boy and even though this is in a suburb of Philly, it’s still too city for me. My next place will have some acreage to it. I’m hoping at least three to five acres if that is possible in this area. I don’t want to live too far from work since I still have to keep my day job. I also want to be able to build a treehouse escape area. I’ve always loved the idea of a treehouse and now I’m even more inspired. I even bought a book featuring treehouses from around the world. The new house also needs to have a room or space where I can build a nice train platform for my Christmas villages. I’ve always want to build a train set up but haven’t had the space for it. I thought I could do it in this house, but it was required to have a guest room. Now that guest room has also manifested into a walk in closet….so I’m still waiting.  I know I’ll find what I’m looking for soon and with having a partner in crime this time, I don’t want to settle just for convenience. I want it to be the right place.

The month of June seems to be flying by. I can’t believe it’s already the final week of the month. There are a lot of house projects going on in case I decide to put it on the market next month, hence getting the comforters washed and packed away, and I’m running out of time. I still have one complete room go through and clean up. I don’t know how I’m going to get it done. I have to mop and clean the kitchen floor at least 4 times this week because we are going to lay a new one overtop of it. It’s hard to keep the cats out of the kitchen all week, so I’m going to have to wash it every night and hopefully we can lay it on Saturday afternoon.

Well I think that is enough about my crazy past couple of months. I hope you have all been doing well. I promise I’ll get better at this blog thing. Hopefully I can get back on track with at least one or tow posts a week, until then…

Have a great night!
